The UK’s cheapest supermarket has been revealed, beating competing stores on price throughout February 2026.

Exclusive data analysis by The Independent has found that Aldi was the cheapest supermarket last month, based on the average prices across a range of typical household food items. When we delved into the data we calculated that a basket of 30 items costs £45.14 on average across the month of at Aldi, without any promotions included, cementing its spot as one of the UK’s most budget-friendly supermarkets.

Following closely behind, the same items cost £46.29 on average at Lidl, just £1.15 cheaper than its budget-friendly rival. Asda fell into third place with a total of £49.52 on average across the month.
