Nut prices soar amid tight supply and high demand

Demand for healthy snacks is growing: year-on-year servings are up 1,9% to 6.2 billion, according to Worldpanel data [52 w/e 28 December 2025]. Meanwhile, spend on healthy snacks is up 6.6% to 88p per serving.
Some of this increased spend is driven by inflation. The Grocer’s analysis shows pre-promotional prices of dried fruit and nuts sold in the baking aisles of the traditional big four are up an average of 6.8% to £2.89 [Assosia 22 April 2026 vs 22 April 2025].
Nut prices have been particularly volatile over the past 12 months, says Lani Smith, project delivery executive HRA Global. As a result, suppliers are eschewing nuts for seeds “like chia, flax, pumpkin and sunflower.. because they’re cost effective.”
