Objective

  • Assosia have been commissioned by our client to conduct ‘offline’ i.e. in-store price and promotion tracking (captures) across a wide range of retailers and categories.
  • We visit multiple retailers each day of the week for various different categories, reporting results on the same day for priority categories and the following morning by 10am for the remainder.
  • We also conduct smaller priority checks for our client twice per week for a selected range of new releases and high profile items. These checks occur first thing in the morning and reported to our client within 3 hours.

Methodology

  • Our field team visit each store covertly to record the price and promotional information for all required products within a specified category, including capturing new releases and new additions to the in-store range.
  • The team also capture photos of the products and displays in store, including promotional POS and individual images of all new items.
  • When the results are submitted back to Assosia from the team, all new products are passed through a validation process to ensure that the data is correct and that item descriptions match the naming convention used by our client.
  • The price and promotion data is validated through our internal systems and any queries are investigated and verified prior to the final report being delivered to the client. Price verification takes place in a number of ways including using photographic evidence, revisits to store to validate information or a phone call to store.

Outcome

  • Our client uses the data we provide to ensure that they can react quickly to price changes and fluctuations and therefore remain competitive in the marketplace.
  • We are able to give them a clear insight as to what is happening ‘on the ground’ and often provide information at store level that is not yet available through other channels.
  • We are able to investigate quickly and report back on ad-hoc requests regarding specific promotions and events to ensure that our client is able to make informed decisions regarding pricing.
