We are delighted to announce our partnership with the Grocer, one of the UK’s most influential and leading magazines within the FMCG sector.

Over the years, we have worked with the Grocer on smaller-scale data provision and bespoke projects. With this partnership, we will be working with the Grocer to help deliver the Grocer 33 every week. Continue reading this blog to find out more about the Grocer partnership.

Sophisticated web-scraping and in-store price collection capabilities will be used to price compare a balanced basket of 33 closely matched items across the UK’s leading supermarkets every week.

Optimised web tools will also be used to generate powerful new insights and additional retail analytics. These tools will show the timings and impact of promotions and measure inflation on a display, base and all-inclusive basis, at individual SKU level and by retailer.

Our ‘stretch matching’ capabilities will also ensure more assorted baskets can be shopped, with more own-label price comparisons now possible.

The Grocer weekly competition thoroughly assesses the prices, services, and availability at Waitrose, Morrison’s, Asda, Sainsbury, and Tesco.

As well as featuring guest retailers such as Amazon, Lidl, Ocado and Aldi. The Grocer is also planning to include more retailers and is intending to conduct more Online 33 shops.

The editor-in-chief of the Grocer, Adam Leyland, states, “the new agreement reflects the extraordinary development Assosia has undergone in recent years”. He also emphasised that “Assosia will help us ensure the Grocer 33 remains relevant and insightful as the industry undergoes a further powerful change in the years to come.”

Assosia MD Kay Staniland added: “We are excited to be working with the Grocer to help deliver the Grocer 33 every week. We believe the combination of Assosia’s dynamic and powerful insights across all categories within the grocery sector will prove a winning combination.”

Working alongside the Grocer, Assosia will develop the Grocer Price Index inflation tracker and monitor listings/delistings. We will also be responsible for highlighting availability issues and provide other vital metrics at a macro level by retailer and category.
